This magnetic pewter Spitfire Paperweight shows a beautiful aerial view of the iconic WWII fighter plane.
Handmade in the UK from lead-free pewter, this striking gift is a faithful rendition of the fighter jet that began life in Southampton and played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain. Like all Made in:Here gifts, the Spitfire Paperweight is crafted here in the UK from sustainable, recyclable materials and comes with a fascinating Trivia Tag, making it a great Southampton souvenir.
The paperweight is presented in a lovely (and environmentally friendly) gift box, and has a magnet on its underside so you can also display it on a metal surface or let it take flight from your fridge door. And did you know pewter is recyclable? Not that we think you’ll throw this away!

- What’s the Spitfire’s Southampton connection? Southampton is the birthplace of the Spitfire aircraft, designed by RJ Mitchell and first flown in 1936. Only 12 were ordered but more than 22,500 were built.
- How did the Spitfire get its name? RJ. Mitchell, designer of the famous Spitfire fighter aircraft, wanted to call it the Shrew or Scarab. Instead it was named after Mitchell’s boss’s daughter, whose fiery character earned her the nickname ‘Spitfire’.
- What speed record was set in Southampton’s skies? The Schneider trophy air race was a legendarily dangerous contest held several times over Southampton Water. RJ Mitchell’s SB-30 broke the air speed record during the race, reaching 407 miles per hour in 1931.
